Survival kit "The Turkey Day" tech support - 2010 Edition

Accept, if you read this blog while your 'Tech IQ"will be average in advance of your average PC users (and I mean wayyyy to come!). I bet you're surrounded by friends and family who hated know how to pass their PC and who received just beyond the fear of demons that make work "TV bits."

Thanksgiving is a time of year that sees developers and non-techies are together and it is likely that you are the designer, identify you and track you non-techies (a bit like infected look normal people in the films of zombies), seek free advice and a "help" Troubleshooting a problem. And why not.Do doctors all get it shows boils and wounds to meetings and lawyers helping friends and family members with their latest trial? n °... maybe I'm in the wrong line of work?

With this in mind, I've set up what I call a tech support survival kit "The Turkey Day".Alors I called it a kit for the "day of the Turkey", but I am sure that it works well at other times of the year, but it seems to be the time where super hero designer skills are more in demand.

Then, without any preamble more, here are my recommendations for a survival kit "The Turkey Day" tech support:

USB flash drives high capacity several

Survival kit "The Turkey Day" tech support is based on several big flash drives USB.4 GB is good, but 8 GB + is preferable. Many of them have a loan.

Download advanced update

Nothing worse than to see the PC which is seriously lacking appropriate updates.Worse still is sitting for hours waiting for the software updates down pipes on a slow connection.

Be prepared and download updates to peak. You know better than me what that is you family and friends are running, but here are a few suggestions:

Security

I find always convenient to carry an antiviru gratuit.Mon choice download installer is Microsoft Security Essentials because it updates automatically and it nag-free 100%.

I also find it convenient to have a scanner that can I install and run to clean any infected, computer I trouve.Pour this I use PC VIPRE rescue program.

Don't forget to check whatever browsers are installed updates, and modules), as well as java, QuickTime and Flash.

Another good security tip would be to find what's on the system. If default PDF reader it is not an updated version of Adobe Reader software, I would recommend uninstalling it and adding FoxIt Reader, a movement that will make the system more secure.

Troubleshooting

Ultimate Boot CD .Ultime is my favorite utility portable troubleshooting boot CD is now even better, because it allows you to run the ISO from flash USB signifies drive do not have to carry a CD more (though on older systems, it is always wise to have a CD...).

Gifts

It is also good to have a few cadeaux.Je is that browsers are good... Firefox, Opera and Google Chrome.OpenOffice is a good another bonus like collaborés.

Still think Windows 7...

Unless your family and friends live in a cave on March with their fingers in their ears and buzzing show tunes, there is a good chance they will have heard about Windows 7.Chances are both you can ask questions such as "if it runs on my PC?In addition, will be ready for them and get the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.

Equipment

You must be packaging materials as well as with logiciels.Je located at a minimum, it is good to carry a # 2 screwdriver Phillips.Une antistatic strap and ESD bag are also useful additions.

Having a Turkey day people good! OH and try to have fun!
